What is Tri-M?

The Tri-M® Music Honor Society (formerly known as Modern Music Masters) is the national honor society for middle and high school music students, sponsored by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).

At Peterson Middle School, our Tri-M chapter brings together dedicated student-musicians across Band and Orchestra who go above and beyond in their musical studies and academic work. Tri-M isn't just an award—it’s an active student organization that empowers young musicians to build leadership skills, serve their school and local community, and celebrate a shared passion for music.

Scholarship: High academic and musical standards
Leadership: Guiding peers and leading ensemble sections
Service: Sharing music with the community
Character: Demonstrating integrity, respect, and teamwork

Tri-M at Peterson Middle School

Throughout the year, Peterson Tri-M members put their passion for music into action through performance and service. Members step into student leadership roles across the Peterson Music Program, assist directors with staging and ushering at school concerts, and take charge of organizing and running our annual Recital Night performance in February.

In summary, joining Tri-M means...

Student Leadership: Members take on active leadership roles within the Peterson Music Program.
Concert Support: Students manage staging, ushering, and event setup for school performances.
Recital Night: Members organize and run our annual student performance event in February.
Stage Decoration: Helping to decorate our stage for our winter and spring performances
Music Mentorship: Helping others through mentorship and music lessons
Service Projects: Identifying a need, making plans, and executing service projects to support others
Service Hours: Volunteering your time to meet service hours requirements

Joining Tri-M

Getting involved with Peterson Tri-M is open to all students—simply join us as a club member and commit to attending our monthly meetings!

A sign up link will be posted in the music room at the start of the school year, and students will be given an opportunity to sign up and participate with Tri-M.

Meetings are held in the music room during lunch on the first Tuesday of every month. It’s a great way to stay connected, plan upcoming events, and support our music program.

For students looking to take on a bigger role, election season takes place at the end of the school year; officer positions are voted on and decided every May to lead the chapter for the upcoming year.
